Who we are?
SOS Family
Family ties are developed organically
SOS family consists of children who live with their SOS mother in an SOS house. Family ties are developed organically, i.e., girls and boys of different ages live together as sisters and brothers, and biological siblings are always placed in the same SOS family.
SOS family is meant to provide a secure, emotionally warm environment and encourage the development of sense of belonging, leading up to the moment when a child is strong enough to transfer to SOS Youth Facility, where he or she will continue to receive care.
Rights and duties of each child in SOS family, shared between all the family members, serve as a basis for child’s later life, and determine his or her behavior in other environments throughout his or her life. It is precisely in this shared life and relationships that develop between family members that the essence of SOS concept can be found.
Family-based model of SOS Children's Villages on one hand contributes to the restoring of faith in the institution of family as the main factor in child’s development, while on the other hand it restores child’s trust in the family as the basic social unit.
